'Look at Me' - Heritage Lottery Funded Project

Look at Me is a series of 10 free arts projects for young people aged 10 to 16 in North Plymouth. The project runs over two years, until July 2008 and is funded by the Heritage Lottery. Each sub-project in the Look at Me collection runs from one day to twelve weeks and is lead by a professional artist. All work produced during Look at Me will become part of Plymouth’s City Archive for future generations to enjoy.

Aims of the Look at Me project:
The Look at Me project was set up to help young people in North Plymouth connect with their heritage and the wider Plymouth community using the arts. So far the Look at Me team have completed four projects, a visual arts, dance and filmmaking project, as well as a summer project which involved many different art forms.

The Look at Me project aims are:

Development of young people’s knowledge and appreciation of heritage.

Development of young people’s skills and confidence.

Involvement of young people as active partners in the project.
Wider community benefits of the project, including successful partnerships.

The Look at Me project is also inter-generational and recruits volunteers of all ages from within the community. The project provides a space for discussion and understanding between different generations, which may not otherwise occur.

Estover Film Makers Club

We meet every week after school in The Soundhouse where we have the opportunity to use professional camera equipment and editing software to produced our own films with the help of a professional film maker. Our group supports other groups and initiative in the community by making promotional films for them, as well as creating our own pieces to enter into film festivals.

Our group consists of all ages from 10-16yrs and our abilities vary. Every week we gain skills and hands on experience in a fun and creative environment. We are currently working closely with The Heritage Lottery funded project 'Look at Me'.

So far we have won two awards, our latest success being a 'Frankie', an award for the Best Plymouth Film at The Motion Plymouth Film Festival.
